Sustainability strategy
Our plan for the environmental and social challenges
The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The construction industry, due to its enormous consumption of energy and resources, contributes significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions. Our sector also has a significant impact on nature and society due to the high volume of waste generated. At STRABAG, we recognise our responsibility as a leading construction technology group and are working to reduce our CO2e emissions.
Climate-neutral value chain by 2040
With the sustainability strategy adopted in 2021, STRABAG set itself the goal of becoming climate neutral along the value chain by 2040. In order to achieve this extremely ambitious goal, we are focusing on environmentally friendly and sustainable methods in the design and build phases of construction projects. The efficient utilisation and recycling of resources plays a central role here, enabling us to minimise the potential negative impact of construction projects on the environment.
The sustainability strategy was embedded in our corporate strategy and customised to the individual areas of business. The focus of the strategy is on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Together with technology as one of the necessary drivers to utilise the potential for the necessary transformations, the aim is to achieve the climate targets.
Our commitment:
STRABAG is working to become the most sustainable construction group in Europe. This endeavour comes with a very special responsibility: shaping the future of construction as energy- and resource-efficiently as possible. This will only succeed if we create transparency about our activities and projects, constantly work on ourselves and on achieving our goals, and work in close concert with sustainability initiatives.

STRABAG is a sponsoring partner of the Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft
Climate protection needs commitment: STRABAG SE sets an example for corporate responsibility in climate protection

The Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft actively promotes compliance with and implementation of the European and German climate targets. Since the beginning of 2023, STRABAG SE is now part of this alliance. As a new sponsor of the Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft, STRABAG SE is striving for climate neutrality along the entire value chain by 2040. The focus of the cooperation is on the circular economy, sustainable building materials and CO2-saving processes in the construction industry.

STRABAG SE participates in the Forum Alpbach
The Forum Alpbach offers a valuable platform for interdisciplinary exchange and the development of new ideas for a strong and democratic Europe.

As part of the “Circular Economy in the Construction Industry” lab, STRABAG SE is bringing together a diverse group of 30 participants to develop practicable solutions to the challenges of the green transformation in the construction industry.
