Ecological sustainability at STRABAG SE
On the way to climate neutrality
The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. As a leading construction technology group, we contribute significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions. Besides our high energy and resource requirements, however, we are also responsible for a large amount of waste. We therefore have a responsibility to take action in order to reduce our negative impact on the environment. In 2021, STRABAG for the first time adopted a sustainability strategy, setting ourselves the goal of becoming climate neutral across the entire Group by 2040.
To achieve the sustainability goals of our STRABAG strategy by 2040, we must take steps in all areas of our business and implement the right measures along the entire value chain. In terms of ecological sustainability, the focus is on decarbonizing our business activities and buildings, helping to shape the energy transition and the transition to a circular economy. Strengthening biodiversity is an equally important topic. To implement these measures, we carry out pilot projects which, once successfully completed, are integrated into the existing processes. To achieve our goals, we test our planned measures in the form of pilot projects within the Group and, following successful completion of trialling, integrate these measures into the Group’s existing processes. Project-related decisions are always based on methodological approaches and a robust data foundation.
